Harvey A. Fletcher

 

Age 88, of Chatham Village, Mt. Washington, on Sunday, January 3, 2010. Born on November 23, 1921, in Hot Springs, SD, he was the son of the late Andrew and Edna Fletcher. He is survived by his wife, Anita, son, David Fletcher, of Las Cruces, NM, daughter, Gayle Doty, of Albuquerque, NM and grandson, Mark Fletcher, of Lancaster, CA. He was preceded in death by his son, Scott Fletcher. During WWII he served in the Navy with CASU 13 in the Admiralty Islands. For much of his life, Harvey was a bricklayer in Albuquerque. Later he owned and operated Eugene Copy Center, a print shop in Eugene, OR. Age 7, of Ligonier, after a valiant battle against leukemia, on Tuesday October 27, 2009. Age 72, Of Whitehall, on Sunday, July 5, 2009, Joann passed away peacefully in her favorite room of her home, after a long illness. Her family was at her side during her final days. Joann was an exceptionally caring and giving person who demonstrated her love for her family and friends in countless ways throughout her life. She served her community for many years in the field of child development with a particular interest in helping abused and neglected children and their parents. Her work as a volunteer was publicly recognized when she received the “JCPenney Golden Rule Award for Exceptional Volunteer Service”. She will be remembered for her special gifts as an artist, a chef and especially for her humility, acceptance and compassion. Of Baldwin Township, died Saturday, June 13, 2009. Born June 14, 1928, in Pittsburgh. He was the son of the late Dominic and Concetta Mazza; Frank was the beloved husband of Connie (Calabria) Mazza for 55 years; loving father of Donna (Joe) Benzenhoefer, Karen (Kevin) Sciullo and John (Lil) Mazza; affectionate grandfather of Heather, Lisa, Eric and Kevin; dear brother of Alberta Sergi. John E. Gabriel

 

Age 63, of South Fayette Township, died peacefully on Monday, February 23, 2009, after surviving cancer for six years. At the time of his death, he was surrounded by loved ones. He was born on June 24, 1945, in New Castle, Pa to a loving family that included his late parents, Anthony and Mary Gabriel, and late brothers, Ken and Tom. John was director of the Commission on Human Relations for the City of Pittsburgh from 1973-1990. He then served as president of the Pittsburgh Civil Service Commision from 1990-1994. He received a master's degree in political science from the University of Pittsburgh and graduated from Duquesne University School of Law in 1985. He was in private law practice with his son, Deron, until the time of his passing. John is survived by his sons, Deron (Gina) and Brian (Clare), and their mother, Sharon; loving grandfather of Christian, Isabella, Angelina and Maria; devoted brother to Myra Cook (of Warren, Ohio); dear uncle to several nieces and nephews; also survived by aunts, uncles, cousins and many dear friends. Age 79, of Mt. Washington, on Sunday, January 4, 2009; brother of Mark (Yolanda), William (Carmella), Fred (Patricia) and the late Joseph T. Smallhoover, Jr.; also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Smallhoover was a veteran of the Korean Conflict (twice decorated with a Bronze Star and received a Purple Heart Medal in combat.) Worked as an Allegheny County Assessor and was Chief Appraiser for the VA. Friends received at the BRUSCO – FALVO FUNERAL HOME, Inc. 214 Virginia Ave., Mt. Washington.
